Project management - Jan Spaargaren

NIO architecten and Jan Spaargaren have been working together over a period of 25 years.

Jan Spaargaren (1938) as a civil engineer designed the motorway in Switzerland from Stuttgart to Schaffhausen to the German border, including artworks, bridges and tunnels. He was an assistant project manager involved in the construction of the rail and freight station in Schaffhausen. In Austria he worked as interim manager in the construction of the Elektronik Fabrik Wien in Vienna for Philips. In Berlin he received the commission for the consultancy by De Weger to establish a new branch office and to maintain contacts with “Die Treuhand”. In Poland he worked on behalf of the 4 largest Dutch road building contractors as a project manager to obtain an order of 100 km. of motorway A2 based on the BOT principle. In Russia he was a consultant for the design of residential blocks. In the countries of Lithuania and China, he worked on behalf of the Dutch government as a consultant and in Egypt as an advisor for the renovation of the airport. In the Netherlands he advised the municipality Hoofddorp and guided the design and realization of 3 cable-stayed bridges. He was member of the design team for the cable stayed bridge over the canal in Utrecht and for the bridge in Zaltbommel. As construction director at the aircraft manufacturer Fokker, he was responsible for the construction, renovation and refurbishment of buildings that serve in the production of aircrafts. As a project manager he gave direction to the design team for an ice rink and sport accommodation in Friesland.
